HKTDC names Margaret Fong as new executive director

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) recently announced the appointment of Deputy Executive Director Margaret Fong to Executive Director effective 1 October 2014.

The Council, a 19-member governing body of Hong Kong business leaders and senior government officials, endorsed unanimously the appointment of Fong, who has served the HKTDC as Deputy Executive Director since 2010, overseeing the international promotion of Hong Kong’s product and service industries and the HKTDC’s network of more than 40 offices worldwide.

“Since joining us, Margaret has achieved significant success in leading our efforts to promote Hong Kong as Asia’s business hub and create opportunities for Hong Kong-based companies in developed and emerging markets. She has also been instrumental in fostering closer ties with our stakeholders and the community through the use of new media," said HKTDC Chairman Jack So.

Fong will succeed current HKTDC executive director Fred Lam.

“I am honoured to be appointed to this role, and am delighted to have the opportunity to lead one of the world’s finest trade promotion organizations," she said. “The HKTDC has always been one step ahead in helping Hong Kong SMEs explore new frontiers. My challenge is to continue the momentum by delivering value to Hong Kong in a rapidly changing global environment.”
