Resources investment dominates Australia's trade

Australia's trade figures suggest that the economy is moving to one dominated by investment spending, rather than consumer spending, economists say.

Imports of consumer goods fell, despite it being the month before Christmas, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group senior economist Julie Toth said.

"This correlates to a strong transition in the economy from consumer spending to investment spending and that's likely to pick up through 2012," she said.
