To celebrate and profit from the holiday season, several shopping centers and large retailers in Jakarta have offered discounts and extended sales. Apart from showcasing savings of more than 50 percent on brand names, retailers also tried to lure shoppers with themes and attractions.

Matahari Department Store, Indonesia's largest homegrown department store chain, featured numerous promotions and discounts in December.

Tenants in other Jakarta malls such as Kelapa Gading mall, Senayan City and Central Park have offered discounts of up to 70 percent.
