Motor vehicles prop up slow Singapore retail sales in Sept

Retail sales in Singapore increased marginally at 0.5 percent in September 2013 compared to the previous month mainly due to strong motor vehicles sales. However, excluding motor vehicles, retail sales decreased 2.5 percent, the latest report from Singapore Statistics showed.

Compared to last year, September sales went down 5.9 percent due to lower sales for motor vehicles and telecommunications apparatus and computers.

Sales of food & beverage services (seasonally adjusted) increased 0.4 percent compared to the previous month. Compared to September 2012, sales of food & beverage services rose 2.2 percent.
