Shanghai IFC developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) was one of the first office developments in the city to get LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold pre-certification from the US Green Building Council in 2008 while it was still under construction. The building is now complete and has been given full gold certification in recognition of SHKP's eco-friendly, sustainable development.

The Green Building Council's rating system considers design, construction and operations in assessing a project's eco-friendliness and sustainability. Shanghai IFC received gold certification for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor environment.

The integrated project is in the Lujiazui finance and trade zone and is easily accessible by public transportation to reduce carbon emissions. It was designed and built following green standards and nearly 75 percent of the construction waste was recycled. The building has low-e glass walls to moderate temperatures throughout the year and save energy, and it incorporates materials low in volatile organic compounds for health. The design allows natural light into nearly 80 percent of office space for an energy-saving, healthy work environment.

SHKP incorporates green elements in every aspect of business and follows international green standards in design and construction, which has given it three LEED-certified and 14 BEAM-certified projects to date. Kowloon Commerce Centre was the first office development to achieve LEED gold pre-certification in Hong Kong. The developer will follow its integrated approach to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Shanghai IFC has over four million square feet of gross floor area containing grade-A office space, an up-market shopping mall, The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong and the five-star Shanghai IFC Residence serviced suite hotel. It is a first-class integrated development in a prime site in Little Lujiazui and linked with the first East Yan'An Road tunnel exit. The LG2 level of IFC Mall connects directly to the Lujiazui metro line two station that runs to Hongqiao Airport in the west and Pudong International Airport can be reached with one easy interchange to the Maglev. The development also offers easy access to the upcoming metro line 14 and has 1,800 parking spaces.
