Japan’s Family Mart opens first store in the Philippines

Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart has opened its first store in the Philippines at the upscale shopping district in Makati City.

Located at the ground floor of the Glorietta 3 mall, the store has a total floor area of 220 square metres, and would sell around 1,400 items, including bento, sandwiches, deserts and other original ready-to-eat items—and such fast foods as fried chicken, hotdogs, steamed meat buns and sorbet.

A 26-seat eat-in area will provide a relaxation space for customers.

FamilyMart has a proven track record in the operation of convenience stores in Japan and many countries overseas for over 25 years. It operates over 22,181 stores all over the world, including 12,700 overseas franchise stores in Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, China (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu), United States, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The store is owned and managed in the Philippines by Philippine FamilyMart CVS Inc., a joint venture between Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation and SIAL CVS Retailers Inc., a joint venture of the Ayala Group and the Rustan Group.
