Global yogurt brands to add flavour to Indian cuisine

Good-old homegrown curd-based desserts like lassi and shreekhand now have more overseas competitors. Leading foreign brands like the US chain Red Mango, Smoothie Factory, South Korean Yogurberry and Canadian yogurt chain Kiwi Kiss are all set to enter the Indian food market with their brand of yogurt and yogurt-based products. These players would be competing with the homegrown yogurt chain Coco-berry, which is already an established player in the market.

The food and beverage (F&B) market is estimated to be around INR33,000 crore (INR330 billion, USD6.57b) and health-segment is one-third of it making it around INR11, 000 crore (INR110b) business. The frozen dessert market in India is USD500 million out of which 50 million is frozen yogurt.

According to experts, health and wellness food market is growing at a rate of 35-37 percent.
