Tesco unveils second generation tablet hudl2

UK supermarket Tesco unveiled on Friday Hudl2, the second generation of its Android tablet released last year, and promises to be bigger, faster and sharper.

The new tablets have 8.3 inch full HD screen, Dolby optimised audio, and powered by an Intel Atom super-fast 1.83GHz quad-core processor. Available in eight colors, the tablet runs on Android’s Kitkat 4.4.2 so users can also enjoy access to over one million Google apps.

The gadget sells for GBP129 (USD), but Tesco’s Clubcard customers can also purchase it through Clubcard Boost for GBP65 (USD).

In an industry first, Tesco has worked with The Parent Zone to develop a parental filter so children and parents can use one device safely. The app, which comes pre-loaded, allows parents to set up profiles for up to seven users. Each of these can be tailored according to age and suitability, including setting a time limit to pre-determine how long their child spends using the tablet.

“We know customers want easy, accessible technology that the whole family can use whether working, shopping, gaming, learning or just taking some time out. Cutting-edge technology doesn’t have to come with a big price tag," said Michael Comish, Group Digital Officer at Tesco said,

Tesco launched huddle1 in September 2013, selling over 750,000 devices. It was the fastest selling tablet ever launched at Tesco, with over 35,000 tablets sold in its first two days of release. hudl2 goes on sale in over 800 Tesco stores and online from 9 October.
