Jewellery tops online product sales in India, says eBay

India’s e-commerce sector is getting a good response from rural and tier III cities, Sharat Digumarti, head of Operations at eBay India, said at the launch of the eBay India census 2010 in Hyderabad.

"Jewellery is the largest selling product online and every four minutes a piece of jewellery is sold this way in India. The purchasing trend is different according to geographical areas, with consumers in rural towns preferring to purchase dress materials, while tier I and tier III consumers prefer to buy sarees (an Indian style of dress), and in metros it is designer wear," he said.
