Yelp launches in Singapore

US-based online business finder Yelp Inc. is expanding into Asia and has officially launched its first website in Singapore.

Company executives said Singapore is a vibrant and well-connected melting pot of cultures and businesses and is a fitting place to build its first Asian community.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Yelp was launched in 2004 as a virtual one-stop-shop for people trying to find restaurants, retail stores, boutiques, dental clinics, pet shops and other services in the local market where it operates.

Yelp communities have been formed in major metros across the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland.

The company said Yelp’s free iPhone and Android applications, as well as its free suite of business owner tools will be made available soon.
