Online shopping festival to support Indonesian e-commerce players

MasterCard and the Indonesia E-commerce Association (idEA) have partnered with 14 leading merchants in Indonesia to launch an online shopping festival, Pesta Belanja Online.

The festival, which will run from mid-August until 15 January 2015, will offer exclusive deals from selected Indonesian merchants.

Participating merchants include Bhinekka.com, Electronic-city.com, Floweradvisor.co.id, Groupon.co.id, Happyholiday.travel, Lazada.co.id, Livingsocial.co.id, Lojai.com, Multipro.co.id, Perkakasku.com, Saqina.com, Sukamart.com, Tiket.com and Zalora.co.id.

MasterCard said despite e-commerce being one of the fastest growing industries in Indonesia, its growth has not spurred the development of the electronic payments space.

Cash payment (37.9 percent) continues to dominate offline transactions for online shopping payment methods in Indonesia, followed by bank-to-bank transfers (27.5 oercents), according to the MasterCard survey on Online shopping.

The survey also revealed that 83.9 percent of Indonesian respondents place importance on online shopping sites which have promotional offers such as discounts and free gifts. Convenient payment method (92.6 percent), speed of transaction (92.2 percent), and secure payment facility (92 percent) were also the top three factors influencing the decision-making process when online shopping.

Daniel Tumiwa, Chairman, idEA, said they are confident that ‘Pesta Belanja Online’ will positively impact Indonesia’s e-commerce industry given its potential to increase transaction volumes from existing as well as potential customers.

“With the support of our bank partners and a strong collaborative network in Indonesia, MasterCard aims to continuously provide fast, secure, and convenient electronic payment solutions for Indonesian consumers, enabling a seamless online shopping experience,” added Irni Palar, Country Manager, Indonesia, MasterCard.

MasterCard and idEA have a host of upcoming programs to support Indonesia’s economic development through e-commerce, such as a seminar organized for e-commerce industry players to provide insight on building their profitability through learning about business processes.
