Microsoft picks Sydney for flagship store to take on Apple and Samsung

Technology giant Microsoft has picked Sydney as the home of its first flagship retail store outside the US, in a move that will see it take on Apple and Samsung for the attention of high-street gadget enthusiasts.

The new store will be at Westfield Sydney on Pitt Street Mall, next to the recently opened Sephora cosmetics store, and will cover 581 square metres of sales floor space over two floors. Last year the company announced it would open its first flagship store on New York’s Fifth Avenue, having previously opened 110 smaller retail stores in shopping malls in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Opening dates for both stores are not yet finalised, but are expected to be ready for the Christmas shopping.
