Kathmandu founder takes reins of expanding Retail Adventures chain
The Kathmandu founder, Jan Cameron, has taken operational control of Retail Adventures, Australia's discount chain business she acquired out of receivership nearly three years ago.
"We have reached a pivotal point in the transformation of the Retail Adventures business, and as a result our owner, Jan Cameron, will step into the role of managing director," the company told suppliers in a communique on Thursday.
Kathmandu slumps on sales warning
New Zealand-based outdoor adventure wear company Kathmandu is the latest retailer to succumb to soft Christmas sales with management saying earnings for the December half are now expected to be below last year.
As recently as last month, Kathmandu said sales for the 15 weeks to 13 November had increased 16 percent on the prior corresponding period but same store sales over the last five weeks have dropped below last year's levels.
Kathmandu defies tough retail conditions
Outdoor clothing chain Kathmandu's jumped 16 percent in the first quarter of fiscal 2012, in line with expectations.
The New Zealand-based company said sales grew to NZD56 million (USD42.4m) in the 15 weeks to 13 November, compared with the corresponding period last year.
Same store sales grew 7.6 percent during the period. That compares with 2.1 percent growth in the first 16 weeks of the 2010-11 financial year, Kathmandu said in a trading update on Friday.
Kathmandu ascends from retail trench
Outdoor clothing and camping company Kathmandu has bucked bleak retail trading conditions, delivering a 138 percent increase in first-half net profit to NZD10.5 million (USD7.72m).
However, it warned prices of its products would increase because of rising manufacturing costs in China.
Kathmandu had 100 stores across three markets, including some 58 stores in Australia, 36 in New Zealand and six in Britain.
China Southern doubles Nepal flights
China Southern Airlines has doubled its flights to and from Kathmandu, Nepal from three to six to meet increased demand.
The flights are between Guangzhou International Airport and Tribhuvan International Airport, which is 5.56 kilometers east of Kathmandu City.
