Jubilant FoodWorks' same-store sales a disappointment
Indian company Jubilant FoodWorks' financial performance has cooled, albeit marginally, compared to previous quarters, thanks to higher base effect and persistent inflation, putting pressure on consumers' discretionary spending. Nevertheless, growth rates in the March quarter (4Q) are good on an absolute basis. The company is optimistic about the business prospects of Domino's, as well as the recently launched Dunkin' Donuts (first store in New Delhi).

Brand owners boost Indian R&D presence
Increasing numbers of major brand owners are enhancing their innovation capabilities in India, reflecting a desire to tap this fast-growing market.
Zinnov, the consultancy, reported that the 1,000 highest-spending firms globally allocated USD582 billion to R&D in the 2010/11 fiscal year, the Times of India reported.
This constituted an improvement on the USD538b posted in 2009/10, when worldwide expenditure levels slipped from USD543b due to the economic downturn.
Small-town India fuels rise of online shopping
A new report by the Boston Consulting Group says online retail in India could be a USD84-billion industry by 2016 – more than 10 times its worth in 2010 – and will account for 4.5 percent of total retail.
E-commerce entrepreneurs and experts say small-town India will play a big role in the online bonanza.
Balendu Shrivastava, Group Business Director, Internet & Mobile Association of India, says more that 60 percent of online shoppers would come from beyond the top eight metros by the end of 2012.
India GDP growth seen picking up in 2012/13
India's economy is expected to pick up in the fiscal year starting on 1 April after growing at its slowest pace in three years in the current fiscal year, a government advisory panel said on Wednesday.
The panel said it expected the economy to grow by between 7.5 and 8 percent in the next financial year after growing 7.1 percent in the year that ends on 31 March.
US Quiznos all set for its N Indian foray
Quiznos, a US-based chain of sub restaurants is all set to open its first north Indian outlet at N-Block Market in Greater Kailash-I, New Delhi.
The outlet will open on 22 February 2012.
Indian mobile users give a thumbs-up to Pepsi over Coke, says survey
Just ahead of the upcoming digital marketing event, ad:tech New Delhi 2012, the world's largest independent mobile video service, Vuclip, has revealed the findings of its mobile survey on favourite cola brands in India and globally. Pepsi emerged as the brand of choice for a dominant 46 percent of the respondents in India, while 20 percent of the respondents favoured Coca Cola. Thums Up was the preferred cola brand for 17 percent of Indians. The survey included votes of as many as 2, 37,786 mobile phone users from India.
India set for FMCG sales boom
Consumer spending in the Indian FMCG sector is set to more than triple by 2020, offering major opportunities for brand owners and retailers.
