Another Foxconn worker "falls to death"
A worker fell to his death at Foxconn Technology Group's manufacturing plant in southern China, local media reported on Wednesday, the latest in a series of apparent suicides by young migrant workers at its factory complexes in the past two years.
Foxconn makes the iPhone and other products for Apple and also counts Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia and Sony Ericsson among its clients. It has criticised by labor rights groups for harsh labor practices.
Foxconn plans more investment in China's Henan
Foxconn, one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers, plans to increase its investment in central China's Henan Province after moving factories to Henan and southwest China's Sichuan Province last year.
Foxconn plans to invest in 19 new projects in Henan, including factories that will produce camera lenses and LED lighting rigs, as well as more branches of Foxconn's retail chain Cybermart, Terry Gou, chairman of the Foxconn Technology Group, said during an economic forum in Taipei on Friday.
Explosion at Foxconn factory shows supply risks
An explosion at one of two factories that make Apple's new iPad 2 highlights the risks of a global manufacturing strategy that has cut costs but concentrates production in a few locations.
Foxconn Technology Group, the contractor that manufactures Apple's iPhones and iPads, said Friday's blast in the western city of Chengdu killed 3 employees and injured 15. The Taiwanese company said production was suspended but did not respond to questions on Monday about how supplies of iPads might be affected.
Blast kills 3 at Foxconn factory in China
Three people are dead and 15 others were injured in an explosion at a new Chinese factory operated by the Foxconn Technology Group, which makes Apple's iPhones and iPads, late last week.
The blast and a subsequent fire, triggered by combustible dust, hit a manufacturing centre in Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan province about 7pm local time last Friday.
Foxconn releases China export figures
Foxconn Technology Group has announced that in 2010, the company's export value from its Shenzhen processing and trade enterprise reached USD48 billion, a year-on-year increase of 50 percent.
Since a spate of suicides last year at its factories in China, the company has become very sensitive to media exposure and how it is perceived by consumers. A representative from Foxconn told local media that with the company's continuous distribution on the Chinese mainland in recent years, its Shenzhen plant still gained outstanding results, which shows its significance for the company.
Foxconn says its China workforce exceeds 1m employees
Foxconn Technology Group, the world’s largest contract maker of electronics, said its Chinese workforce now exceeds 1 million employees as the company continues to hire during the holiday season.
The largest private employer in China plans to expand its workforce to as many as 1.3 million by the end of next year, Louis Woo, special assistant to CEO, said in an August interview. The Taipei-based company employed about 920,000 workers at that time.
India's CCD aims for 100 'lounge' outlets
Indian coffee shop Café Coffee Day (CCD) is planning to expand its redesigned 'lounge' format to 100 outlets across pan India.
Currently, the company is operating at 10 outlets in premium format compared to its standard format. CCD is targeting the metro cities, high streets, international airports and premium malls for urban population between the age group 25-30 years who are financially independent with expanding wallets.
More workers needed for Foxconn in China
Foxconn Technology Group has announced that it plans to hire nearly 400,000 additional workers in mainland China within the next 12 months.
The Taiwan-based technology outsourcing giant said it aims to increase its employee base to 1.3 million from the current 1.2 million.

Foxconn considers moving production back to Taiwan
Foxconn Technology Group, shaken by a spate of worker suicides at its mammoth industrial compound in Shenzhen, said on Thursday it could move some of its production lines back to Taiwan if the island offers attractive enough incentives, including cheaper costs for hiring foreign labourers.
Meanwhile, Taiwan is making intensive efforts to increase its attractiveness to foreign investors, and to lure back companies like Foxconn, which have left the island in droves for mainland China.
