IKEA reports sales in China

IKEA's sales growth in China stood at more than 20 percent since the start of this financial year, compared with 31.4 percent of increase in China furniture retail sales, the figure released by National Bureau of Statistics for the first three quarters in 2011. IKEA's sales growth in Chinese market was not as expected.

Sweden's IKEA, the world's largest furniture maker, is set to enter the consumer electronics market with products developed in co-operation with China-based TCL Multimedia, IKEA officials said.

IKEA, known the world over for low-price, self-assembly flat-packed furniture, plans to launch a line of furniture with integrated connected television and sound systems in five European cities in June, throughout seven European countries this autumn, and in its remaining markets in the summer of 2013.

S.P.S. Group, a major Thai furniture exporter, is targeting THB5 billion (USD161.76m) worth of exports in three years after being named a major supplier to Ikea, the popular Swedish do-it-yourself furniture chain.

The company targets 20 percent export growth to THB2b this year. However, it has secured a six-year, THB18b contract with Ikea that will result in much greater growth.

IKEA recalls "hazardous" pots

Swedish Store IKEA is recalling its FORSTA coffee and tea maker, as the glass pot can break unexpectedly due to pressure from the metal holder, possibly causing burns and lacerations.

Customers are advised to stop using the product immediately and bring it to any IKEA store for a full refund, the company said in a statement. No receipt is required.
