Eastman Kodak Co has agreed to sell its online photo services business to Shutterfly Inc for USD23.8 million, kicking off the bankrupt photography pioneer's re-launch as a much slimmer company although a patent sale seen crucial to its turnaround may still be months away.
The once-iconic company that invented the hand-held camera has said it will quit the camera business and is expected to fetch USD1 billion to USD2b from the sale of about 1,100 digital patents, which is due to get under way by 30 June.
Kodak exits digital camera market
Eastman Kodak, whose name became synonymous with photography, is to stop making digital cameras.
The 133-year-old company said it would also end production of video cameras and digital picture frames.
Kodak said it would concentrate on more profitable divisions such as photo printing and desktop inkjet printers.
Kodak sues Fujifilm in bid to defend patents

Eastman Kodak Company announced on Thursday that, consistent with its previously announced intention to sell non-core assets to sharpen the Company's focus on its digital growth initiatives and accelerate Kodak's transformation to a digital company, it has agreed to sell its Eastman Gelatine Corporation business to Rousselot, part of the Netherlands-based Vion Food Group.

The struggling US camera and printing group's comments came after it confirmed it had hired a law firm well-known for handling bankruptcy protection cases, Jones Day.
Kodak said it was "not unusual for a company in transformation to explore all options".
Samsung settles patent dispute with Kodak
Eastman Kodak says electronics maker Samsung Electronics has agreed to pay the photography company an undisclosed sum to settle a patent dispute over digital-camera technology.
The announcement came less than a week after the US International Trade Commission ruled that Samsung infringed two Kodak patents.
