Thailand's CO2-emission tax for vehicles delayed

A proposal to implement a carbon dioxide (CO2) emission-based excise tax rate for vehicles in Thailand will likely be delayed for another four months so it can be studied in greater detail and more discussions can be held with relevant parties.

Thai motorists will soon experience Mazda's SkyActiv technology, touted by the Japanese automaker as a breakthrough in fuel efficiency and emissions cuts.

"We will no longer wait for the government's tax incentives to support the introduction of our new technology if we see it is truly beneficial to Thailand and Thai consumers," said Choichi Yuki, managing director of Mazda Sales (Thailand).

Mazda expects to sell 220,000 vehicles in China this year, up 22 percent from 2009. While that's a sharp deceleration from its 40.5 percent gain last year, it's ahead of analysts' forecasts for the market.

Mazda, Ford may end venture in China

Mazda and Ford are in talks about possibly dissolving their joint venture in China and establishing a new structure for cooperating with their common Chinese partner.

A person close to the Japanese automaker said Mazda and Ford are discussing possible ways to split those China operations into two separate entities, with the Chongqing operations owned and operated by Ford and Changan, and the Nanjing base by Mazda and Changan.
