P&G clears plan for mobile coupons
Digital coupons are catching on with consumers, but the market's growth has been hampered by a pesky problem: Many retailers still aren't equipped with laser scanners that can detect bar codes off of the reflective, shiny, backlit screen of a smartphone.
Former P&G CEO John Smale dies at 84
Former Procter & Gamble Co. CEO and chairman John G. Smale, who expanded the consumer products maker with a major acquisition and a push into China and other emerging markets overseas, died on Saturday in Cincinnati. He was 84.
A spokesman for the Cincinnati-based company didn't immediately give details about how Smale died.
P&G CEO says company aims higher
Procter & Gamble Co.'s (P&G) CEO assured shareholders on Tuesday that the company is aiming higher than its latest results. Bob McDonald, who is chairman of the world's largest consumer products maker, as well as its chief executive, said at its annual meeting that P&G has had solid growth despite economic weakness in the United States and other developed countries. He also said costs for raw materials rose nearly USD2 billion more than expected in the past year.
Talking about waste with P&G
Procter & Gamble Co. is a giant producer of consumer products – and a giant producer of waste and carbon-dioxide emissions.
Last year, the US-based company generated more than one million tonnes of waste, about equal to the waste almost two million Americans together produce annually. But P&G says it has been able to cut in half the amount of material it sends to landfills, thanks to sustainability programs launched over the past five years.
As middle class shrinks, P&G aims high and low
For generations, Procter & Gamble Co.'s growth strategy was focused on developing household staples for the vast US middle class.
Now, P&G executives say many of its former middle-market shoppers are trading down to lower-priced goods – widening the pools of have and have-not consumers at the expense of the middle.
Levi's names P&G executive Bergh to replace Anderson as CEO
Levi Strauss & Co. named Procter & Gamble Co. (PG) executive Charles V. Bergh as its new leader following current chief John Anderson's decision to retire after 32 years with the jeans maker.
The move, effective on 1 September, will see Anderson step down as president and CEO. He will also resign from the company's board.

P&G's Ed Shirley will step down in realignment
Procter & Gamble Co. is again reorganizing the leadership of its business units as the consumer-product giant loses another top executive.
Ed Shirley, 54 years old, the vice chairman of P&G's USD27 billion beauty and grooming unit, will step down from his job in July and leave the company in January. In his wake, P&G will put the beauty and grooming unit under vice chairman Dimitri Panayotopoulos, who will lead all global business units at the USD78.9 billion company.
P&G's Asian chief: Growth is speeding up
The head of Asian operations for the world's largest consumer products maker says Procter & Gamble Co.'s growth in the region with half the world's population is picking up speed.
The goal: More babies in Chinese villages wearing Pampers. More women in teeming urban India washing their hair with Pantene. More families on the canals of Vietnam cleaning their clothes with Tide.
P&G profit shows 7pc dip in 3Q10
Procter & Gamble Co. reported on Wednesday a 7 percent decline in its net profit to USD3.08 billion in the July-September quarter, while sales increased on the introduction of new products and growth in emerging markets.
"Our first quarter was a good start to the fiscal year. We maintained our top-line momentum and delivered profitable market share growth," says P&G chairman, president and CEO Bob McDonald.
P&G CEO says growth plan working
Procter & Gamble Co.'s CEO Bob McDonald says its growth plan is showing progress on several fronts, and on schedule for the target of 5 billion consumers in five years.
The US-based consumer products maker added 200 million users of such brands as Pampers diapers and Olay skin cream last year, for 4.2 billion globally, according to McDonald.
