Hotels discover Indians' love for fancy eating out

The food and beverage (F&B) business seems to be cooking almost half the revenues for international hotel chains in India. In contrast to the global trend, hospitality chains like Marriott Hotels and Accor Group are seeing a significant chunk of the India revenue coming from the F&B segment.

Coke will expand Thai investment

Coca-Cola Co, the producer of Coke, Fanta and Sprite soft drinks, plans to commit THB14 billion (USD456.17 million) to Thailand over the next three years to expand its beverage production and to invest in related facilities and activities.

"We will continue to invest more here," CEO Muhtar Kent said in Bangkok on Monday.

The US beverage company will invest in five major areas – new production lines, distribution, cold drink equipment, outlet management and branding.

Crown to increase beverage can capacity in Malaysia

Crown Holdings Inc, a leading supplier of metal packaging products worldwide, announced yesterday that it will install a second two-piece beverage can line in its existing facility in Bangi, Malaysia.

Visitors to Macau spending more

The total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors reached MOP12.1 billion (USD1.5 billion) in the third quarter of 2011, up by 25 percent from a year earlier, Macau's Statistics and Census Service said.

Per-capita spending of visitors amounted to MOP1,633; an increase of 7 percent year on year.

Analysed by place of residence, per-capita spending of mainland visitors was the highest, at MOP2,026, but down 3.7 percent year on year.

Cuppa Stop seeks franchisees across India

Bengaluru based Cuppa, a beverage brand is seeking further expansion across India via franchising.

The company is targeting locations like Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Hyderabad, various cities of Punjab etc. It already has established presence with 30 outlets in Bengaluru, out of which 24 are franchised and rest are company-owned. Cuppa also has three franchised outlets in Delhi and one in Pune.  

China Resources bracing for costlier 2H

China Resources Enterprise (CRE) is bracing for a challenging second half, saying it will not fully pass on higher costs to consumers.

Frank Lai Ni-hium, chief financial officer of the HK-based retail, food and beverage, and brewing group, said that from January to June, wages rose 15 percent, rental costs increased 20 percent on average, while raw material costs surged.

That hurt CRE's profitability which has a 179,000-strong workforce and a portfolio of 3,428 shops.
