Thailand’s March consumer sentiment at 5-month low, says survey

Thai consumer confidence fell to a five-month low in March, a university survey showed on Tuesday, as the worst drought in over 20 years hurt the farm sector and concern over the global economy weighed on sentiment.

Sentiment was also hurt by the central bank lowering its 2016 growth forecast in March, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said in a statement.

Overall Consumer Confidence Index, which reflects views on the economy, job opportunities and future income, dropped to 73.5 points in March, compared with 74.7 in February and 75.5 in January.

An index below 100 points indicates low consumer confidence.
