Internet is becoming a daily habit for more than half of Australian

Australia is embracing the digital age, with seven out of 10 households connecting to the internet, and more than half of them going online daily.

The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics snapshot of social trends shows that in 2008-09 almost three-quarters of Australians aged over 15 had used the internet.

In 2009, online retail sales were estimated to have totalled between AUD19 million (USD20.28m) and AUD24m, with travel services being the most popular purchase (56 percent) followed by concert and movie tickets (43 percent). More than 30 percent of people had bought household goods or books, newspaper and magazines over the internet.
